I'm fluent in mile to km though. Divide by two and add a tenth (ie multiply by .6)

So a mile would become 1609m / 2 = 804.5m + 80.45m = 884.95m = 1km. Proving that 1km = 884.95m. These metric units are weird 🫣

P.S. I have always used multiply by 8 and divide by 5 to convert miles to km.

Some ready reckoners though are

10 miles = 16 km
10 km = 6 miles.

From that easy to see that 100 miles = 10 x 16 = 160km and 120km = 12 * 6 = 72 miles etc.

But your calc from miles to km is way out. Take 1 mile and divide by 2 you get 0.5, add 10% you get 0.55. Now one mile is not 0.55km.

You're being deliberately obtuse.

Take one mile, divide by 2= 0.5. Add a tenth of one mile (NB not a tenth of 0.5 as you chose, just to be clever) that's 0.1. Result is 0.6. If converting from miles to km, add the number you started with (you omitted that step, presumably for comic effect) with result 1.6km. Actual value 1.609. 0.5% out.

Going from km to miles. It gives 0.6, 3% off the real value of 0.6214

As I said, It's just a way of multiplying by 1.6 or 0.6. Works for me.

I am not being obtuse just working off exactly what you put. Even 0.6km is not equal to one mile. Plus one tenth of a mile is 0.16km not 0.1km. You did say from mile to km for this calculation.

I am not, I am being correct with what you have posted. You are the one being obtuse. Your calculation makes no sense for going from miles to km. Instead of responding and answering my points, you make ad hominem attacks. Hey ho.
