I've had a rotator cuff injury in my right shoulder for a long time now so I know how frustrating it is to have to wait for healing to complete. (I should probably start doing some gentle exercises to help it but the discomfort puts me off.)

Maybe time to go back to the physio/specialist. What was the diagnosed issue? Overuse? Something mechanical?
If inflamed/swollen look at meds/injections

Having had scans on both knees, my advice would be to pass on what the second orthopedic specialist told me, avoid specialists that instantly tell you that surgery is required! I have various minor tears, plica and other bits in both knees from 40 years of sport and cycling. The second ortho said avoid surgery unless 100% necessary, most niggly issues will resolve themselves. He reckoned any surgeon that tried to jump straight to an op, unless there was no other option, should be avoided as they are usually trying to fill surgery quotas to keep their theatre space.
