Sorry if this sounds mercenary, but if you are intending to claim damages against his insurance, get a pocket book and record everything, mileages, expenses telephone calls etc., you and/or your partner incurs, on a daily basis and get all receipts. It's so easy to forget something even after just a few days and in my experience, the driver's insurance company will argue over everything. A contemporary record resolves this.

Get well soon. Unfortunately it is industry standard for the bike to be deemed a right off after an accident like this as you cannot detect below the surface cracks. The important part is you own recovery though. Had my own idiot driver wipe me out earlier this year so know what you are going through.
