I don't know whether cleanup threads are a thing in this forum, but basically if I don't tell someone I'm doing it I won't do it.

Kona Dew 2014, commuted on it for about five years, then used it occasionally during lockdown to take my eldest round the fire station/industrial estate on his bike seat (that's how good our lockdown was), and then used it twice in the mud to pretend I was a mountain biker and then left it in the shed uncleaned for a year and a half. I need it back in service to cart my youngest around to nursery.

Needs new chain, new cassette, I might be able to salvage the chainrings as they actually don't look too bad under all the dirt (which does look bad), new brake blocks and cables including outers and noodles, a few new spokes, and a good clean and check for corrosion.

The BB is apparently a CH 68x123 JIS - what tool would I need to remove this, and is it worth just buying a new one rather than trying to clean up and regrease the existing one with new bearings? If so, could someone link to a suitable BB online?

2014 - you've left that in a mess.

Without seeing the side of the BB, I guess it's a cartridge, and you can't service these. If it's rough, it's a new one.

Chainset - looks OK mechanically, but might be easier/cheaper to look at Spa Cycles or SJS cycles for a new cheap chainset - it's rather rusty and tatty. - you could get out a dremmel, but you'd then need to spray the chainset so it looks OK and doesn't rust again in 5 minutes.

Headset might need attention.

Please explain the top tube adornment - never seen anything like that before! Otherwise: I might just look out for one of these!
It's the mounting frame for a Weeride bike seat, so the Weerider is between the Bigrider and the handlebars, much more sociable. I'll take it off to clean everything up.

Not sure what the last sentence was referring to, but I bought the bike for £250 in 2014 and in terms of value for money it's been amazing, five years of commuting and a fair few all-day rides too. If you want it I'd be happy to let it go for £249.

Be good to see how this scrubs up. Time to invest in some elbow grease

Ooh, that's ugly.

I did a friend's tourer a few years back that was similar. We replaced the entire drivetrain, cabling and wheels. The only things we salvaged from the pile of rusty parts were a couple of M10 locknuts from the rear axle, which we later used on his fixie (Miche track hub locknuts have a nasty tendency to split into two).

Had a Kona Dew for a while. Lovely bike. Can't remember why I got rid of it though.
Think there might be a little bit of rust to deal with on yours ^_^

Surprisingly, the bottom bracket doesn't want to come out. The largest spanner I have is adjustable and the pincers (?) are about as long as the edges on the bottom bracket tool but it just keeps slipping off, it won't grip tight enough, even with the BB tool clamped in place by the crank bolt. Would I be better buying a solid 32mm spanner, or 32mm socket wrench, or something chunkier like a pipe wrench? i could try clamping it to something and rotating the frame but I don't really have anything solid to G-clamp it to.

The frame and wheels cleaned up pretty well, there's a tiny bit of surface corrosion but nothing I'm worried about, most of it was mud dust.

Non-drive, loosening anti-clockwise. Or not.

Thought that one had to come out first but will maybe try the driveside tomorrow.

A 14" pipe wrench did it, just needed a proper grip on the BB tool. Shell needs a clean out but threads look fine, new BB is a Shimano UN100, was about fifteen quid I think.
