It's basically only the UCI that can kick them out, or possibly the IOC. The Vuelta organisers would be sued into bankruptcy if they tried.

THE UCI could potentially be sued if they took action as well - that's how billionaires work, they've got the money to make life very difficult and expensive if you cross them - and it's largely irrelevant whether they have the law on their side or not.

But if I were an IPT rider (lol, no) with moral indigestion about riding for the team (lots of ex riders have claimed this), I'd be refusing to ride on safety grounds right now.

This has been in my mind too.

Leaving aside completely the riders' views on the wider political scene, the IPT riders are in a difficult situation.

They are participating in a sport that has inherent dangers. Their team is being targeted, making it more dangerous.

Moral indigestion on not, they must be genuinely concerned about their safety. And if they did decide not to ride, what would be the consequences for their career?

I imagine most of the non Israeli ones have their agents looking for another team for them for next season.

I couldn't quite believe that they managed to sign anyone for next season, I know it's a tough situation with possible team mergers and sponsors leaving other teams at risk, but I'd have thought Lewis Askey could find a ride somewhere else.

I think there's probably a swathe of workplace safety law that they could use for support.

But if IPT do end up out of the Vuelta (whether by riders stepping off or being forced out another way) then I think it might be the end of the team. It would certainly provide a blueprint for how to force them out of a race

Oh absolutely. I can see how a rider a couple of years back might have been invited to Tel Aviv to see what a nice vibrant Western city it was, and given the whole "been offered peace many times, we have arab doctors and lawyers, only democracy in Middle East" talk and if they weren't clued up before (and let's face it, a lot of cyclists only know about Watts per Kg, diet and which gears they prefer) be convinced to sign, but those that signed for 2025 and beyond? I've little sympathy for them.

I think it's a case of " if other riders are signing then it must be ok " .
It would be helpful if there was more "it's not ok " chatter in the bunch . Who knows maybe there is .

Peer pressure is how these things work .
