Ganna was very fast in the final section though.

Yep, the long straight sections were good for him

I agree that the Vuelta is the least interesting of the GTs by quite a long way, you'd have to be a seriously dedicated contrarian to claim anything otherwise.
I'm not going to claim otherwise but the Covid one held in the autumn was the best version that I remember off the top of my head.
Pity the calendar doesn't allow for that to be a permanent schedule.

Fastest at checks 1 and 2. Please just ignore me in future, I'm just talking b*llocks

Slips to third at the finish. Ganna last section was exceptional but Hoole must have ridden it pretty quick as well. Mads looked like he went out too fast - probably thought his chance was in being quick through the technical part

So Mads seems to have recovered from whatever was the problem yesterday. Do we know what it was?

No, he just said there was "nothing in the tank", didn't mention any illness. Said he was glad today was a "half rest day"
That's part oof the reason I thought he might take it easy - but the lure of a few points was obviously too much

Decent shout that. It was only 18 stages, but a good ding-dong between Roglic and Carapaz.
I'd be in favour of the Giro and Vuelta swapping places, just for the weather issues both have, but late October would also be interesting as a season extender - as long as it didn't screw up worlds / Italian one dayers - Lombardia was held in August that year!

Kung could be a threat. Ayuso seems to have recovered from his "off" day now he's riding for himself although he's tiring now.

Kung goes 3rd 12" down. Ganna absolutely blitzed the final 4km.
