A vet friend of mine told me, for example, that horses have the intellect of a human three year old - makes perfect sense - enough to have some free will, and to exercise it when they feel like it, but still prone to 'irrational' fears.

... and lying on the supermarket floor throwing a wobbler :smile:

This thread has raised a few questions in my townie mind.

1. What is "tupping" ?

2. How does a Brazilian help with whatever point 1 above is ?

3. Why don't we drink pig's milk ?

I'm coming from a background of thinking until fairly recently that sprouts grew underground, so go easy.

I'm no expert but -

Tupping = breeding.
Brazilian = because the Ewes want to look sexeeeee, innit :laugh:. I'd imagine removal of the excess wool etc makes entry for the ram easier.
Pig milk = go and have a try to milk one :biggrin: They don't have udders, only teets so very difficult.

The word tupping is the actual act of the ram (tup) getting jiggy with the ewe.

My mate had one tup that when he put it in the field it got so excited it nearly had a heart attack. They had to get him back in and break him in a little more gently.

Think he was young.

Mind you they also had lamb that got rejected by it's mother so they hand reared it. They called it Minty.

Then it exploded. :smile:

Apparently it had some problem where it couldn't fart.

Bottle fed lambs are very susceptible to bloat. Put some glucose and baking soda in the milk.

I think the ewe brazilian was a hygiene thing, as sheep do tend to carry a fair bit of crap around their backends, plus it maybe makes the area a bit more obvious - these were first year rams. I'm sure not all farmers do it, my friend has never mentioned it, but hers are fairly hardy Shetlands.

Pig milk - you need a very very low stool....:smile:
