Hi guys. Sorry this is last minute, but I've been dithering about whether to do it, I've decided - it's on!

So it's one of my hilly rides from Hebden Bridge. There are some long gentle hills, some short, steep brutish ones.

The basic route is 42 miles and returns over Cock Hill from Oxenhope. There is, however, an interesting possible diversion just after Oxenhope. We could turn left up a shortish steep climb which goes up to a nice lane going round past the reservoir used by Halifax sailing club. This detour would eventually bring us back to Pecket Well to do the final descent to Hebden Bridge on the Keighley Road. That would be 50 miles in total.

We can call in at the tearooms at Scar Top at the 32 mile point.

Meet at Market Place car park as usual, at 09:45, aiming to set off at 10:00.

I'll fill in more details later. but I need to get this thread started now or it will be too late!

Anyone up for it?

Oh go on - you know you don't want to! ;)

Hopefully I'll be there, but going to the mils's for her 30th wedding anniversary party in a couple of hours,

finish time-----who knows???

I'll be walking up many of the hills i suspect

The joys of riding fixed
It'll be nice to meet you if you can make it Paul. and I'd definitely be walking some of those climbs if I was on fixed!

I'll check the thread again in the morning to see if you are coming.

I would really have loved to join you guys tomorrow but can't rearrange things at such short notice.

I hope the wind stays behind you all day!
Sorry about that, but I was dithering until I got a PM from Shaun. His mini-tour of the Dales was ruined by a broken wheel and he wanted a consolation ride tomorrow. See you on the next one!

Ok - here you go!

Here's the route profile ...

As you will observe, it's a gentle pootle over some minor West Yorkshire and Lancashire hills, with plenty of long flat sections where Pennine-Paul will be able to rest his weary fixie legs - NOT! ;)

No, it's not off Calum, but if you have a choice of days - the Sunday ride is bigger and better! I'll still do the Monday ride with Shaun even if you switch to tomorrow's ride. Let me know what you intend to do.

.

Have been putting the new bits on my bike today, got the 28 granny ring and the 12-26 cassette on now, if I can't get up the Roman road in 2 weeks now I never will
biggrin.gif

Will be nipping out for a flat-ish 20 miler just to test everything out, heading to Tatton Park so might even bump into Skuddy

I recognise that elevation profile, is it the start of the Trawden route?

Very good! And don't forget - you'll be needing those gears on the outward leg too! ;)

How are you going to test your climbing gears on a flat road?

The start of the profile is the same as the start of the Trawden Profile because it follows the same route for 10.5 miles before turning back to the right and heading off elsewhere.

We'll do a loop over some gnarly hills and then we will be coming back along the Trawden loop in the opposite direction from where we stopped in Laneshaw Bridge for you to put Shaun's jumper on.

The intention is do do an even harder route back from Oxenhope than straight up the big hill, but it depends if my legs can take the strain! I might be forced to take the shortcut. Hopefully not, though.

Oh, that reminds me - I should mention lads ... there is about half a mile of unmade road on the longer route. The last time I rode it, there were a lot potholes and gravel so you need to watch where you are going!

Ok folks, i'll see you in the morning. I'm a super skint student at the moment so the much cheaper train ticket on sunday morning plus the extra time for a longer ride has been the deciders! I haven't been on the bike once since early november (four months!!!), so expect a much slower calum on those hills!! Also Colin, all the shops are shut now so I will not have that tube for you, or myself... If I puncture tomorrow, it'll be a repair job!!
