Latest Social Distancing *Rules (13 May 2020) - *"Guidelines"

Like the Welsh coronavirus health tourist t**ts that have been flooding Hereford and Bristol hospitals in England? Or the Welsh shopping t**ts that pop across the the English side of the border to shop?

Seems the Welsh don't like playing by their own rules when it's no longer convenient for them. Their attitude is nothing more than parochial bullpois.

Were you bullied by a Welsh schoolteacher as a kid?

I feel that riding with others (not from the same household) is stretching that eased guidance to its absolute limit and isn't particularly responsible... IMO it's more aimed at meeting up with say, a family member or a close friend that you haven't seen in months.
Those of us who live alone are enjoying the opportunity to spend time with another human being in person, even if away from home and at a 2m+ distance :okay: Of course we aren't going to do so if symptomatic in any way

I went out for a ride today with a club mate. We stayed 2m apart. After 8 weeks without any physical contact with other humans except for socially-distanced contact with neighbours, shop assistants and postmen/delivery drivers, it was a blessing. My family and closest friends live over 100 miles away. I am not going to drive so far to meet them in a park at a 2m distance.

Personally happy with solo riding or with my son currently. Since the new rules have come in my 16 year old meets up with a friend outdoors most days (different friends on different days). I think he will keep to 2m. Hope so anyway.

I was just reading by a consultant in hospital there is a rise in infections from VE day celebrations. He thinks there may be the same from end of ramadan. Someone I know was sent home from work just over a week ago after three people contracted covid in an office with one in hospital. School closed locally in past few days due to covid.

My personal view is give it a bit more time before relaxing my own restrictions to see what happens. That's just me others free to do what they want.

Thanks but no thanks. I think I'll pass.
As a Billy no mates person, I always ride alone, but I would be quite happy to ride with another person. They are guidelines not rules. Use your common sense when out and about.

On a slightly different note to my earlier response, can you tell me which rules are broken by the above two activities? I assume cross-border travel has not been criminalised, yet.

People who live close to the Wales/England border have always shopped at nearby places which sometimes happen to be on the other side of the border. This is not a leisure/tourist activity, which @gavroche was talking about, and there is nothing in the rules/guidelines to stop that in either set of national guidelines.

As far as hospitals are concerned, you may not have realised it but this is also not a leisure/tourist activity, and there has also historically been use of cross-border services, usually because of the proximity of the nearest hospital. More used by Welsh patients going to English hospitals because of the border topography/population, and some specialised services, but also frequently used in the other direction. These are rights agreed by the UK government and the Senedd and each country is paid for the services they provide.

But don't let a little thing legally agreed rights and well-established and agreed custom and practice stop you going off on a continuation of your petty little rant.

To everyone else, sorry for the slight thread hijack.

8 weeks in, and we're still moaning about what other people are doing?
Can't we at least moan about some other minority? There are enough people attacking cylists in social media. How about gingers? There's no laws protecting them from bigotry, bloody pale-faced plague-carriers!

I am not convinced that the gaps between some of the riders 1 and 2 was actually 6ft with any of the riders I saw
Assuming they were riding one behind the other, it's almost impossible to get closer than 6 feet.

I feel that you're talking b****ks and the intent of the guidance is not aiming to imply anything of the sort, only IMO. I'd like to go and see my aged mother too.
Everyone seems to want to impose their own, generally stricter, version of the guidelines on others.
We've seen your interpretation of the guidelines, Ian. Who was that attractive blond you were riding with on Saturday? (Socially distanced at all times, of course.)
I can smell runner's perfume even when I'm 3m away and passing them in the opposite direction.
It's better than being gassed out by BO.
I don't see any reason why 2 3 or 4 folk who live together would have to cycle 2m apart.
I'd observe that unless the 3 or 4 are a typical nuclear family, then it's difficult to police (if that be needed) if groups of more than 2 cycle together. It's worth bearing in mind that cycling in groups of 3 or more risk bringing cycling into disrepute.
in Wales the rules are still the same: 2 metres social distances for every day occasion and 10 metres apart for cyclists
Gav - where do you get the 10m apart for cyclists 'rule' from, please?

Is this out-of-date? ". . . you must cycle alone or with members of your household. Cycling with others in groups is not allowed, regardless of whether social distancing practices are followed."

I feel that you're talking b****ks

I was going to reply, looking to refute a point that was perhaps made alongside the insult, but then your rambling thought process on that post as it went on wandered so much and dragged in so many divergent people and views, I literally have no idea what your point actually was. Please clarify, are you pro "people from other households cycling together, and in each other's slipstream"? Or not?

Sorry you were unable to understand.

You said you 'felt' riding with others not from the same household is stretching the (13 Mar [Edit] 13 May relaxation) guidance "to its absolute limit and isn't particularly responsible". You can feel what you like (but you are sharing that opinion on here, presumably wishing to influence others to your point of view (by use of "isn't particularly responsible"). My opinion is that your assessment of both the content and the intent of the guidance is b****ks. (Please don't take this as a personal insult: just my vernacular description of your sentiment and its basis in rationality.)
I think that the revised rules are specifically designed to allow a little more personal interaction between family members not living together or between close friends or, in this context, cycling acquaintances (or indeed any other human) provided always that social distancing is practised. This includes riding as a pair, either spread across the road (if wide enough) or one behind the other, or drinking a bottle (self-transported) at a stop (still apart by 2m). Please share any data you know about which evidences how far behind an asymptomatic rider a sufficient viral load could, in probability, linger at 2m above the ground.
I am pro 'two people from different households cycling together, one in the other's slipstream'. (They can't both be in each other's slipstream.)
Hope that's clearer for you and I apologise for trying to wrap up so many points in one post (missed all the fun on this thread - I was out riding in the sunshine (alone since you might ask) and then locked into meetings).

They found that with a slipstream, a much larger distance is needed to avoid exposure - up to five metres (16 feet) at a fast walking pace.

"The results indicate that the largest exposure of the trailing person to droplets for walking and running is obtained when this person is in line and with leading person and positioned in the slipstream of this person.

"Exposure increases as the distance between leading and trailing person decreases."

But surely this is just common sense though isn't it? I don't get the debate you're trying to push. Is your point that 2 metres is fine, no matter what you're up to? No matter what pace?

By the way, your gleeful targeting of my "I felt" as just mere, ignorant opinion is undermined somewhat by your own use of "I think", they're the same thing of course. You think my opinion is b****cks, and I'm calling yours the same. Just pure, unadulterated "I'll do what suits me" and sod everyone else" b*llocks.
