Whilst the police man was wrong and did say sorry, the cyclist didnt exactly cover himself in glory. His entry on to the pavement was a bit too fast and close to pedestrians, IMO. The policeman could have asked him to slow down a bit.

An interesting point, well made. On what basis would a police officer have the right to ask that? Moral? Legal? Do me a favour?

Agreed. There's a similar facility on my commute and I see the issue as a simple one: pedestrians have priority.

A genuine mistake by the policeman and accepted by him and the cyclist with smiles, why can't more people act in this manner!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The copper could have asked the cyclist to slow down, but then some folks would have taken that as an excuse not to apologise for having got it wrong (i.e. find something, anything, to nag the cyclist about!)
 for both of them

Found in the Yorkshire hills ...
Seems fine ... cyclist rode in a bit fast ... PCSO stopped him, realised his mistake and was sent on with a cheery wave.

I only wish the ones in Leeds would be as friendly.
