Wonder if this has anything to do with the TFL crackdown

Everyone knows his name (and bike)

Ever seen a cyclist get in trouble for
running a red light in London? No, nor us.
So a rather beardy-looking Rupert Everett can
feel himself to be somewhat unlucky that it
happened to him this morning. And even more
unlucky for Rupert? It happened right outside
Heat magazine's office. Oops.

Our local Paper (Evening Echo) has reported an announcement from Essex Police, that they are goign to be exercising more stops and spot checks on Motorcyclists and Cyclists in the county over the summer. The given reason was to clampp down on theft and to check ownership, however past experiences have shown it to also be used to be enforce certain points of law.

I welcome it as both a cyclist and motorcylist

Great news. Like others, like to see some ASL enforcement. However, somehow methinks the emphasis will be more on cyclists than motorists. We shall see.

These boxes are so poorly designed that most cyclists enter them illegally.

City of London Police last year fined
1,700 cyclists who consitute 11% of the traffic for various traffic infringements

Therefore on that basis how many motor veichles were fined in the same period ?

Keeping in mind of couse that motor vehicles consitute 89% of the traffic and have many more laws to break such as stopping in ASL's, using mobiles, speeding, drink driving, driving without due care and attention, no MOT, No Tax, No insurance, dodgy tyres, overloading ..... the list goes on

So which figure is it?

700,000
7,000,000

It is all about the cyclist - re: LBC for example. I have mailed 'that well-known cycling supporter' James Whale. complaining about his automatic bias and the station in general's automatic bias, toward cyclists. There is never any extensive 'foaming' about those on the 'phone' while seated in the driving seat.
Pathetic response from a station that promotes 'eveness' in their societal response.

... and the answer is 700!

So are TFL trying to tell us that motorists are vastly more law abiding than cyclists? Or to look at it another way perhaps many of those motorist offences can only be dealt with cameras or other public bodies?
