I've just been having a look at Richer Sounds website. Remember I mentioned some nice 40 inch LCDs which I saw today? Well, the one I really liked was a Sony Bravia and they have it with 500 quid off!!:becool::biggrin:

I was also wondering if the prices on these will come down a lot in the January sales or are the online deals probably the best price I'll get

It doesn't tend to work like that. The christmas/new years sales on electrical goods last year weren't particularly generous. There's usually some offer, some cut price you can get off a tv you're likely to want somewhere, it is a case of finding it. If there isn't you look at the alternatives. So the right tv to get can change from day to day. The price drops on some of the models you were looking at will come, because some of the replacement models are already out in the shops, the replacements are priced wrong at the moment though so people are still buying other things.

You might want to note some other places have that bravia tv at the same price.

I thought I would post an update - eventually decided on a Panasonic Viera Plasma TV, which arrived today. Very impressed with it and very easy to set up.

And the company I ordered it from were 'spot on'. Ordered on 29th December, e-mail that it had been sent on 30th, and arrived today! And the delivery company also warrant a mention as they made efforts to deliver rather than find us not at home and bugger off :headshake:

An all round positive thumbs up! :headshake::bravo:

+1 for Richer Sounds. Excellent service from the Oxford branch.

Spent ages in there the week before Christams. Ended up with a 32" Samsung LE32B650. Wanted a 37" but Mrs Proto advised that they were 'common', in a Hyacinth Bucket type way.

I was definitely the best picture of all the tellys in the shop, 1080p HD and all that, super fast response time, 100Hz etc, etc. Using it with a BTVision box and picture quality is impressive.

Had to buy a new DVD player as our old one hadn't got a HDMI socket.

Very pleased with it all, although I'm attempting to improve the sound by playing through an audio amp and bookshelf speakers. Little bit of trouble with a minute amount of out of sync sound, but perfectly okay. I'm investigating using some active monitor studio speakers (not cheap) and I'll report back. Not prepared to invest in surround sound, can't stand the idea of any more fecking wires everywhere!

Hi Noods.

We are in a similar situation to you (NE Scotland, limited access to Richer sounds etc), and looking at larger tv set. Admired the Bravia model - 37" at a good price with long gurantee from Hydro.

What attracted you to the Panasonic model, was it price mainly? is the electricity consumption reasonable?

Is that a trick question marin:smile:;)

Minimum possible is answer, keeping electric bills low being important . We have a room full of tropical fish which already competes for resource

Happy New Year.

No it's not a trick question, the power consumption varies a fair bit between models/sizes and manufacturers.

The Panasonic G10s are very good. If you're wanting 37" or 42" you'll be getting an energy envelope of around 120-200W depending on what you get. There are a few flat screen sets that are outside this range.
