I've just acquired a Sun cycle with the above deraillier.
I've tracked down a NOS tension spring, and the rest of the mechanism looks like it will clean up well.
The cable is a continuous cable which is in tact but just thinking out loud where and how do you replace these?

Picture for reference.

No idea how you'd replace those cables but maybe if you found a bike shop with an operative as old as the derailleur.
Can you post a pic of the bike?

If the inner is continuous, how on earth can it be threaded through the outer? Spliced?
Surely it must be cut and fixed at either the derailleur or lever end?
If so, would a tandem cable be long enough? (Doubtful).
Maybe a question for one of the even more specialised forums!

Edit: maybe not exactly the same model, but is this any use?

Edit 2: avoid those splicing and soldering blues with the Cyclo Patent Connecting Nipple No. 32 as seen on page 4 of the instructions!

Edit 3: a tandem cable would be long enough, at 3 metres or slightly more, so all you'd need worry about is how to connect the ends to make a continuous loop. Job's a good'un!

Hi Poacher,
I've just been reading the manual you found and i've got the tandem three spped version. It looks like theres a soldered tee that sits in a groove in the lever and a peg that rotates a cylinder with a worm drive on the gears. Left it soaking as yje cables were siezed so hopefully should come good.
Not sure the Cyclo Gear Company have many spares left out there?

I struggled with the same problem on a 1935 BSA but the connecting nipple referred to above was fairly easy to make and I'm no engineer. I contacted Madgett Cycles in East Anglia and they gave me the address of a cyclo enthusiast who sells/part exchanges the cables ready to fit. I no longer have his address but Madgetts were very helpful. It might be worth giving them a ring. Good luck
