Lending your bike to a friend

Puzzle game procrastinator!
I would but only on the condition that they return it to me in the same condition that it was in when they borrowed it. Any damaged or worn parts must be replaced. If the bike were stolen, lost or damaged beyond repair, then they must buy me an acceptable replacement bike, where 'acceptable' is defined by me and is not open to negotiation. If they don't like those terms, then they don't get the bike!

(It follows that I would not lend a bike to a poor friend, because they could not afford to replace the bike. The only reason that I would be that mean is that I can't afford to replace any of my bikes either!)

As long as the borrower signs my Loan Book, why not.

I don't think I'd lend a bike to a friend if they asked. I've often lent a bike to a friend when I thought they needed one.

My bike doesn't fit most people.

I'm not surprised.

I have and I will again.

I do not have super-posh gear, but my nicest road bike was a squeak over £1,000 about four years ago. It's done charity rides and mini-triathlons with other arses on the saddle.

When we used to have au pairs, they always had the use of a bicycle. House guests often come for rides with us on one or another spare bicycle.

It seems a nice thing to do. Until recently, friends used to stay while we were on holiday - and a house costs more than a bicycle.

Similarly, cars are lent to friends in need, although this less so as we've all got older and people seem to have things organised better.

I think friendship is about being a friend, not fussing about whether someone is going to cross your chain.

I've introduced several colleagues to cycling through lending out a hybrid and a mountain bike for several weeks at a time so that they can get a good feel for what joys can be had from cycling. All of them went on to purchase bikes of their own. I gave my hybrid to a chap that worked at my local garage to keep.

@Mice, @Skipper9999, and @charlie b have all had a go on my Woodrup Chimera and the first two have gone on to purchase a Chimera of their own.

It would depend on the bike and the friend if I'm honest. I think I only have two ffriends who could stay upright on one, best to let the rest practice on their own bike.

I'm more likely to lend my car to a friend than my bike. I guess partly because the car's fully insured and if they break it, it's covered, whereas the bike is not. More so 'cos it's just a car with little or no personal investment, whereas the bike has been built for me and by me.

Lent the MTB to my nephew for his bikeability test. Lent my car to my other sister when hers went kaput.

So yes, if it was someone I trusted I would lend them a bike.

Lent my Trek MTB to a class-mate of my daughter (both 12) to do something aimilar at School

I did, however, put some older tyres on (d her, or anyone else....) didn't skid along on the nice Houfallize(spelling?) 1.5" tyres that were on it
Oh!, & swapped the SPDs for platform pedals

It came back fine!, apart from me losing a disc-pad when putting it back in the car when I picked it up:blush:

I was also prepared to lend my Dyna-Tech to (running) club mate when he was between bikes
