Pre 1971 when a pound was the size of a tea-towel and you could either feed your family for a year on it or fashion it into a small house to live in.
You could also get nearly 3 gallons of petrol. I vaguely remember it being 7/6d. A litre? How many gallons and pints is that?i can remember going into the shops and getting sweets for 1/2p and the sweets were a lot bigger .
