School dinners were 2/6 a week. I remember my Mum counting it out into the little brown 'school dinner' envelope on a Monday morning.
Wow, I thought you were way way younger than that! I remember school dinners being 1/-d a day, so that would be 5 bob for the week.

do they not still sell fuel by the litre ????
i know iv not had a car for a while but its always been sold by the litre hasn't it ??

Sorry. I am 50 going on 22. Apparently I am a bit irreverent at the best of times. I can only just remember dinners in shillings. OH has just told me that they were 7/6 a week. So that's OK then. It was a Forces school so we might have been subsidised.

I was nearly 6 when decimilisation happened.

School meals were 1' a day at primary and junior school... 25p a week... wow! went up to 7' a week when I went to the 'big' school and still remember handing over my 35p after it went metric in 1971.
