Yes Cunobelin you can put a nice shiny gloss on it, but it will still mean that we will no longer be smug, arrogant, and self-righteous. We will be the otherwise law-abiding oppressed.

I am starting a website called "SafeTabard" where such ruses as changing digits and claiming you are dyslexic will be promulgated. Also using lettering fonts that make them unreadable.
There wlll also be advice on how to wear someone else's Tabard (by mistake) and how to apply sprays so that they cannot be read by automated devices. Of course such simple things like claiming a foreign national was wearing your tabard do not require much discussion as they are obvious.
Finally we will demonstrate how to trawl the obituaries and claim a recently deceased person was wearing your tabard as the Police will not want to upset the family with a prosecution.
Bollo said:I hate to piss on your chips, C, but while casually listening to the coverage of the last Tory party conference on the wireless, I heard Theresa Villiers, the current shadow transport secretary quote a certain 'safety organisation' (that's what she called them) when trying to justify its proposals for reducing the number of speed cameras. So that's future government policy you're mocking there.![]()
You think he'd be pleased that I'm on my bike (going to work, not looking for it).downfader said:Yes but the Tories plan to replace the speedcams with lazer cannons.Tebbit will be on the trigger!

downfader said:And this is exactly what strundles through my mind when people bang on about "identifying cyclists". I think of the Nazis. I know its a big leap but it happens.
Crankarm said:Hitler was very pro-cycling. It appealed to him very much as a purist activity promoting a vibrant youthful image of physically superieur virile Aryans ...........
downfader said:TBH I dont know much about Hitler's view on cycling but I did once read that he thought automotive transport and cycles should be completely separated.
hodsgod said:He is completely right though, it is the complete anonymity that allows bike riders in London to break every rule in the book. The trouble is the pedestrians also jay walk all the time. Should they also wear tabards?
Cunobelin said:This was my (sarcastic) point
The comparison to identifying vehicles is inaccurate and invalid..... number plates do not identify and individual, they identify a vehicle. The equivalent would be a plate on the bicycle.
Given the recent story with the guy claiming an icelandic woman had been driving his car - he was totally anonymous and abused this right in the same way as it is suggested cyclists do. Had he been required to wear the same level of identity as suggested for cyclists then this would have been less likely?
Everyone has complete anonymity and to remove this needs to address a whole series of issues beyond the proposed ID cards
