If it's double skin - ie flysheet and inner, then worth a punt - obviously assuming usage is summer camping, not Glencoe in Winter or South Col of Everest.
If single skin, then it's a kid's play tent - which will do fine unless it's raining !

On my first 2-week tour (Le Havre to Barcelona) I used a ten pound tesco tent and was quite content (no punn!) with it, it only a single skin but luckily no rain so no problem. As you state, for an occasional weekend use it should be fine. Later if you start to tour more, for longer periods then you could soon upgrade.

My Argos £15 Tiger Paws tent is highly rated amongst the back packing community. It's lightweight, compact, large enough for my bulky frame and is double skinned and waterproof.
They fetch a lot more on Ebay....

Already have 2/3 tents but thought it might be handy for free-camping.
But comments here have put me off.
I have an idea that it is single skin.
If that means it's totally useless in rain and can even be a problem if it's not raining because of condensation, I can't help but feel that you're better off with a bivi bag for such applications. My ex army goretex Bivi cost about 3 times that I think

The Lidl one is single skin, the ones I've seen seem fairly well built but I'd be wary of the cheap fibreglass poles. Read quite a few comments about ranging from it being well ventilated and staying completely dry in heavy rain to people getting soaked by condensation even with all vents open. Also seen people saying that the floor is not as water proof as it might be.
Last time around the tent was graded at 1500mm but this time it is 2000mm so should be waterproof in most conditions. It isn't to bad a size for one person and gear and at 1.5kg is pretty light. Tempted but probably won't buy.

Problem 2 was solved when I remembered I'd impulse bought a £15 Lidl tent and then threw it in a cupboard when I realized it was a shoddy single skin thing. Initially I was going to give it to son1 but thought I'd survive it's hardships better in the event of it being totally crap. I should say at this point that I can say nothing positive at all about this tent other than it allowed us to go. It will be a dark and desperate day if I ever need to dig it out and use it again!

Well I think that's finally made my mind up - I'd be better spending the £15 on beer and sleeping in the bivi for the application I had in mind.

I think the main thing I recall is there is just room to sit up in at the front, the rest is low. Condensation was the main problem and it either dripped down or if you accidentally touched the ceiling whilst getting dressed, which I needed to do lying down and I'm not tall, you got quite wet. Of course when you put it back up later it was still damp. It was waterproof though. Personally, I'd spend a bit more for a double skin tent.

I already have 3 double skin tents (well a fourth as well in a remote location) plus the single skin bivi.
But your advice seems sound.
If folk are after an economical double skin tent I'd recommend that they look at stuff from Coleman, particularly stuff in sales.
