Well done Maggot, thank god for people like you. I've read the 1st aid book but I really should do a course.

How did the motorcyclist get on?

I had a first aid certificate. Problem is the one I did are only valid for a year now, they used to be valid for 3 years.

Good for you Maggott. Did the guy survive?

Would love to get some first aid training. Even volunteered to be the first aider at work but I was too important to be absent on a five day St John's ambulance course. Or not important enough.

no-one was trained, or at least trained enough to be confident

I've had very basic training, on a couple of occasions, (many years ago) but wouldn't know exactly how to react, or be confident, in this kind of situation, and possibly, training could make a difference.

Don't shout me down, but this kind of thing causes me some trepidation about doing the WRONG thing in an emergency.....

I did a first aid course a few months ago as part of my Bikeability Instructor training.

It made me realise how hard a lot of this stuff is, and that there's actually quite a lot to remember.

Well done User76 for doing your best, even if the motorcyclist's life wasn't saved.

Well done maggot, I know it can be unpleasant using it/trying. The only time I had to use it the motorcyclist was all right.

Well done Maggot, you did all you could.

Maybe at least 1 of the people watching may be spured into doing a course now.

2 pleas, get some first aid training, it should be compulsory for everyone to have a valid 1st aid certificate maybe. Or possibly as a condition of holding a driving licence. Second, carry a decent first aid kit, even if you don't know how to use it,

Well done Maggot!!! I'm booked to do the First Aid At Work course in July. I'm not in favour of compulsory anything though this would be as good an exception as any.

Well done Maggot, pity it didn't work out, but you did what you could. First Aid training is one of those things I've always meant to do.... I like to think I know the basics, just from absorbing info off the telly and stuff (I don't mean watching Casualty, I mean from documentaries).

First Aid training with a driving licence? Probably a good idea, but when you look at the standard of driving of some people, maybe not....

The one I did was very good. Unfortunately after I did it they changed it so the certificates only lasted a year from three years. Something which unfortunately may end up doing more harm than good as you have to weight up people losing those skills against the number of people you'll lose who don't want to do it every year.
