Lightweight 34-38c folding Road tyre suggestions……

I find the 700 x 32’s on my Trek Hybrid - on the harsh side. And the 700 x 38’s on my Carrera are lush feeling (Panaracer GravelKing SS near Slick).

So I’m looking to try a 700 x 34/35 or 36c tyre on the incoming Carbon wheels to go on my Burgamont 8 Grandurance.

Finding that width is easy. But most seem to then be Gravel biased tread. I’d like that width - but with road tread. Been Googling a while…..all I’ve really found so far:

Conti GP5000s, 35mm

I’d heard them discussed before. Knew they were premium. That’s quite the price. I’m guessing from the fact I have heard ‘so many’ talk about them - they’re entirely worth it ! ?

Yeah, I would say so. Run them on all my road bikes in differing sizes. Fast, decent puncture resistance, great grip, last fairly well. If you're splashing out on carbon wheels I would say you definitely want to do them justice. Tyres are arguably the most important component on the bike.

Those in 35mm with the wide rims you're getting should ride like a magic carpet and corner like a Moto GP bike!

……then we have a slight problem. Don’t mind TPU or Latex. But I’m not going Tubeless at this point.

Does it have to be used tubeless, is it just a suggestion, or ?

No reason you can't run them with tubes. They are tubeless tyres though so will be tight to get on and a bit heavier than if they weren't. Unfortunately at this point they don't do a standard clincher in the 35mm width, unlike the smaller sizes.

I’m puzzled to why you splash out on carbon rims then run with a size of tyre that’s going make you slower.

I know the whole point of this inquiry is to have 34/35mm tyres, but how 'lush feeling' the tyres are does depend quite considerably on the suppleness of the tyre, not just the width. So a relatively supple tyre, such as a GP5000, in 32mm, might still be a good bit better than what you have on the Trek Hybrid at the moment, depending on what those are. I only mention this since tubeless ready GP5000s in 35mm are a good bit more expensive than 'normal', non-tubeless GP5000s in 32mm, and especially so when Sigma Sports currently have the 32mm, non-tubeless version available at a large discount, making them a 'mere' £53 each.

As above, tyres are probably the most important part of your bike, so spending there is a good plan, and certainly so if you're getting new wheels. The tyres will make far more difference to how the bike rides than the new wheels, though the wheels will look pretty :-)

Just looked back at the OP's wheel thread to check the rims he's getting and would have to agree with this - those rims will pair up perfectly with 32mm non-tubeless Contis.

I run the 32c tubed version on the Stayer All Road with TPU and/or latex tubes and have no problems and the wear rate is pretty good too, had the rear go down intermittently but that was due to faulty rim tape so now use Velo cloth rim tape.

Rear is starting to get a bit cut up after a couple of years (do check them regularly and fill in any cuts ). but will make it last until the winter.

You’ve not heard of high volume low pressure having lower RR in the real World ? Have you seen any of the CGN tests or otherwise ? Why are the TDF / Tour boys going rider…..?

Oh I’m going comfier on my Carbon rims alright. And likely ‘faster’…..😉
