We called in hear on Friday, what a gem of a building, the inside is as impressive as the outside, the karaoke in the main bar was something they should lose, the staff told us it had just been bought by an Irish guy, but they didn't know the plans for the pub, it has a very large function room with ornate features which was shut but we were shown in it.
The pub is crying out for some real ale and TLC but its a big building and will take some looking aftet.

We have a few in Carlisle that are of note, principally because they were designed by an architect,Harry Redfern, for the State Management Scheme or the "Carlisle Experiment" as it was known.Redfern put his stamp on everything, from the roof tiles to the interior decor. They are not of uniform design, rather, they use a variety of styles.Which is interesting, here in WW1,the government under Lloyd George, quite literally "state controls"the pubs, and yet ,the architect produces designs which express individuality not bland conformity which is perhaps what one might have expected. One control, one design, not so.One of these pubs,The Horse and Farrier, has lain derelict for a number of years .happily it is currenty being renovated to its original(listed)standard.Even better, its close to me^_^Ill try a photo but sadly,Im a bit hopeless with a camera. If you want, look for the Carlisle and District State Management Scheme site, cant find the link at present.
