You appear to know yourself a lot better than you know how people perceive you.
Just saying....
I've been this way for many, many years, I'm quite aware of people's reactions. They generally get used to it.

(If not, I would just like to point out that I have not had gender modification surgery!)![]()
Yes, why not? That "waiting to die" sounded really sad, my mum is 75, my father died 5 years ago, she has a good social life, she made effort to find one once on her own. Painting, walking groups, cycling (still hasn't given back the folder she "borrowed" for a day in August) and does a days charity work weekly. She's "busy" and really enjoying herself.
If i could afford it, i'd be out of here in a flash !! I don't even own this house, its my son and daughter in laws house they bought it for me
Can't you move to somewhere you don't hate being???

I don't think it was the opinion so much as the insensitive manner in which it was expressed. What I feel uncomfortable about on this thread is the way that an opinion honestly expressed isn't respected when it is given.
The way people live isn't always a result of personal choice but when it is, as a result of someone's inability to react and change their personal circumstances, it makes for uncomfortable reading when someone as forthright as sazzaa points it out. As a result it distracts the thread of comments from the original discussion because people then take offence at being told things bluntly without consideration of emotional response.
What I feel uncomfortable about on this thread is the way that an opinion honestly expressed isn't respected when it is given.
Living alone is a choice that can be changed [but not always for the better]; being lonely isn't- it takes interaction and a willingness to trust, which, after a series of attempts, can be damaged.
And the discussion was whether one should choose one's words to show respect for others or to suit oneself. That's more to do with the reader's reaction though Jo, rather than the honesty of the opinion. We are all different!

But they shouldn't have to.
