I really enjoy a trip up the Tyne valley staying at Byreside campsite. I travel to Sunderland, South Shields, passenger tunnel, through Newcastle then follow the C2C route towards Consett. I return the next day via Durham on the Sustrans routes. Back into Seaham.

I enjoy a 1 nighter. Good way to spend a weekend without it costing too much.

Anyone else do these 1/2 nighters regular!

PS Ortlieb panniers have changed my touring ! Fab gear!!

yep. tend to base them on rail travel to point A some way from home- ride to B for overnight - ride to C - train home.

agreed on Ortliebs.

when I lived in the Midlands I used to do an overnighter in North or mid-Wales at least once every summer - typically train to Shrewsbury Saturday am., ride westwards then another train back on Sunday evening, from say Bangor or Aberystwyth, or even a circular ride back to Shropshire. Great times.

I've done a few, usually straight from work on a Friday, into the Peak District. Camp wild. pitching late and leaving early. Saturdays can be a fast ride back for something else or a slow meander. It's sometimes nice to get back Saturday lunchtime feeling I've already had a great weekend and still with plenty of time for other stuff.
I've always known them as out and back trips, in the US they seem to be very popular and known as S42O (Sub 24 hour Overnight) This is worth a read for the inspiration;

Yes. I think I'll do more Friday leaving work to get back Saturday. I agree about the weekend is still alive in terms of time. Think I'll look into the possibility of wild camping too.
