Say you had a cyclist friend staying over who wanted to see something famous/cool that had to be within let's say a 30 mile ride of your gaff (i.e. 60 there and back), where could/would you be able to take them to see famous fings?

Here are the ones I can think of near me.

Longleat

Salisbury

Bath

Caen Hill locks

Gold Hill in Shaftesbury, made famous by the Hovis adverts in the seventies. I have deep admiration for the cyclist in that photo coz I've walked down that hill and not only is it bloody steep but it's really bumpy with those cobbles!

Can you tell I've not much to do today?!

Luton is only 15 miles away, but I try not to think about that!

3) The Gravelly Hill Interchange
4) Broad street at 2am Saturday Morning
5) The Inner Ring Road (or what's left of it)

30mls from me is:

http://www.winterhill.org - well 25mls but after the ride thru Billnge and Wigan then you'll have defrinately have done a RIDE !

Or I could go east to Manchester but theres nowt of interest there !

South for 30mls gets me to Cheshire rolling plains BTW the 'rolling' really can be steep at times !

More castles than you could shake a stick at (Alnwick, Chillingham, Warkworth etc), Cragside house, the Angel of the North (though the ride there wouldn't be so pleasant), Simonside hills, but the best thing is the almost traffic-free roads you can take to get to most of these places. It's cycling heaven, I tells yer!
