lochs and glens advice new starter!

first blog ive ever done so here goes!
hoping to do sustrans lochs and glens north in july
wondering whether best to go north south or visa versa
is there normally aprevailing wind or is one way more uphill overall than the other!!

The prevailing wind in Scotland is usually from the west or south west so you're better heading north. If there's no wind be prepared to get roasted alive by the sun then bitten to death by the midges as soon as the sun goes in.

Seriously - take suncream, sun hat and midge repellant.

Not that I've much experience of touring in Scotland but generally north to south is mostly downhill (well apart from the uphill part).

As well as lots of mozzie repellant and thick jeans take a mozzie net for the head (worn over a hat) and a larger net for sleeping. Mozzies in Scortland are the size of blackbirds.

Never mind the lochs and the glens.............. The best cycling and the most scenic views in Scotland and the British Isles is the islands of the west coast. That means Arran, the Kintyre peninsula, Islay, Mull and Skye. If you are really brave, add the Western Isles/Outer Hebridees too.
On the mainland, Glencoe, Moydart and the road from Fort Willams to Mallaig is great.
If you want to stick to the mountains, Route 7 on the Sustrans network from Glasgow to Inverness or Aberdeen to Inverness over Lecht Pass is great.

If you buy the multi journey Hopscotsh tickets from CalMac (50 -70 % discounts), the ferries in Scotland is dead cheap.

btw. The Mozzies in the Highlands area is as big as barn owls.

i have to agree ,
mainland scotland is amazing scenery but the islands are just jaw dropping .
