Not concerned with the traffic. Probably worse on the way from mine to Leeds. It’s 10 min walk from Cardiff central so as I say probably not worth lugging the folding bike on and off the train for that.
Personally I would take the folder with you.
A ten minute walk turns into a 2 minute ride and you could leave the bike in a safe place at your final destination/site.
Just lock it up in the station. I've not heard of one being stolen from there recently. Its mainly older models that are left there. I wouldn't leave an expensive bike there. All the station is on CCTV as well. If you have a decent lock then it will be fine.
Thanks for everyone's input. It's still a toss up between the folder and locking up the Giant hybrid. If it was a direct train it'd be a no brainer, but there's one change going down and two coming back.
I'd lock it up personally on platform 1 as the Network Rail office is directly facing the bike racks. They have CCTV. Dont lock it next to the gate, lock it further up the platform.
At the moment the weather isn't looking great (Wednesday) but it may or may not be icy. The decision will probably come down to if it looks icy on the morning. If it does, I'll take the hybrid which is currently wearing studded tyres and lock it up. If not, the folder.
