Don't be so stupid. FM responded to a post advocating a Stalinist solution - is hard labour and murder in the gulag something you support?
No, he didn't. He responded in a generic way to a number of posts. The word "people" is plural.

Oh come on. Nobody wants to go to prison.
Wrong again.

Ever heard of "institutionalised"? That applies to those who know what it's like. Some of those who don't are attracted by the false 'glamour' that those who have been there surround themselves with.

I grew up in a community that had these people in it.

Back that up please?

For example, the financial crisis was perpetrated by people who were out to make a lot of money, regardless of the consequences for others. There are parallels!

If the best you can manage is pedantry and a reference to those unfortunates who have become institutionalized, you don't have much of a point.

Well I have just been into town to do some odds and sods and a trip to the supermarket.

It was only half as busy as I would have expected and it's quiet, not many smiling faces.

Very odd and not a pleasant feeling at all.

When I worked for the DWP we had several clients who would go out deliberatly to cause a crime around Christmas time so they could go to Prison to have good food and access to computer games. So yes some people do want to go to Prison.

So you're saying that these people were trying to get a meal? Not quite the same thing, is it?

You stated that nobody wants to go to prison and I gave you an example of those who did. That said I did not say people wanted to go to prison but rather that it was not a deterent as it is not bad enough.

Don't think you can compare the two bearing in mind one's illegal and the other is not.

Well, it depends if you think that legality is the only measure of how "wrong" something is.

Look, I'm not comparing them other than to say that a sense of entitlement without regard for the effect on others is common to both.

And I say that they don't want to go to prison - they just want a hot meal. It's hardly relevant to the issue at hand though. As a general point, are you aware of any evidence linking the toughness of prison with lower re-offending rates?

I think we'll leave it that. Think though next time you make any crass generalisations.

Well given that your arrogance is your defining characteristic, parking our exchange would indeed be a good idea.
