I have decided to get my old Pink Triangle turntable out of the box and set it up again. When I packed it away a few years ago now I recall it needing a good service and maybe a couple of components repairing or replacing.

A bit of a google has thrown up a couple of possible places which may be able to do what I want, they are:

http://www.decoaudio.com/deco_audio_services.html and
http://www.true-point.co.uk/tpul-pink-triangle-turntable_service.htm.

Does anyone here have any knowledge/experience of these places that you could share?

I know a Hi-Fi forum would be a better place to ask and I am a member of the Linn Forum, but asking about Pink Triangle there might just be like me asking here where is the best place to get my Audi Q7 S Line* seviced, so I thought I'd try here first.

* I do not actually own an Audi Q7 S Line

It depends what the budget is, those links look to be rather on the expensive side (going by the rule that anyone who sets up as an 'Expert' or a 'Specialist' often have charges to match) If you can get a written quote that's within budget (and only for the work that needs doing) go for it.
I've done a few mods on my Thorens but got a local guy to fit the Rega armboard kit.

It will certainly be cheaper to leave it in the box I'm sure but there's no pockets in shrouds, etc.

I doubt if the cost of a fettle is all that outrageous, at least not in proper hi-fi terms: I'm guessing between £100 and maybe £200, unless you go blingtastic on an SME V arm upgrade or whatever.

I can recommend audio-forums.com - friendly and very helpful, albeit a rather quiet forum so you'll have to wait for an answer, but the answer will come. Not seen any voodoo-cables nonsense there either, which is good. Hey, they even discuss classical music not just stereos !

Cheers Profpointy.
Within reason I'm not too worried about the budget and I was thinking somewhere between what you said and a bit more depending on what needs doing.

I see what you mean about the wait for replies, maybe I'll join in there sometime soon.

I fettle my own TD160. It's pretty simple. What needs doing to it?

It's been so long I can't remember details. A new cartridge certainly and I have it in the back of my mind that something within the suspension was buggered but I can't really remember. I should get it out of the box and have a look shouldn't I

There are manuals on the internet these days, so the hi-fi shop secrecy is rather blown open. I found a manual for my Linn quite easily - proper service manual too, not the customer booklet. Linn themselves just said "take it to a dealer" - whilst this is kind of OK as a business model, I'd rather an open and honest approach where you can self diagnose and DIY or pay according to inclination / ability.

There is a guy in Leicestershire (used to have a shop called Cymbiosis) who specialises in Linn set-ups, he charges around £70 per hour and reckons on about 2hrs work but that's without parts so I'd assume just balancing the subchassis for the arm/cartridge fitted and getting the alignment of the cartridge right. (neither of these is that difficult)

Yeah I've been there, it's where I took my Linn to be looked at when it stopped working.
