Displayed in the hand of a five year old for dramatic effect.....
I know that life for a peasant child in China must be pretty tough, but if the skin on that hand belongs to a 5 year old, then it must be even tougher than I thought!

I took many years to overcome a wasp phobia caused by a traumatic child-wasp nest interaction, and those photographs are in danger of reviving it!

They are big, here is one on someone's nose:

We have had a hornet's nest in one of our chestnut trees for a few years. They are not nearly as aggressive as wasps (unless you are a wasp) and are attracted to light so if you have an open window at night they may fly in but are not too hard to deal with. I was digging once when one flew straight into the spade with a loud clanging noise*. Dazed, it fell to the ground, crawled around for a bit and then flew off. As mentioned elsewhere they eat wasps.

*I may have exaggerated that.

I shouldn't worry too much about them. They're from China. If they ever made it this far they'd stop working and fall apart after 5 minutes...

I don't fancy getting on of those caught in my helmet !

We have to deal with european hornets when on holiday in France.

Any light showing in the chalet and they try to get in. Makes it difficult when the kids want a light left on overnight for when they need a wee..

They're a lot more docile than a wasp though, and easy to spot due to their size & noise, so fairly easily avoided or bopped.
