I asked this question about a year ago ( here actually: ...
https://www.cyclechat.net/threads/l...bike-any-recommendations.264289/#post-6066940
I didnt know whether to resume that thread, or start again)

She is NOT an advanced rider by any means
She is between five foot four and five foot five.
Easy to cycle, not to heavy, that sort of thing.
Thinking a hybrid, so mainly for road, and occasionally very simple bike trails ( cycling the Tarka trail, horse tracks in park, that sort of thing).

Budget - not "too" overly concerned (within reason)

I was very interested in a firm favourite in these forums -Pinnacle lithium 3 , but the womens version doesn't seem to come in a small size...

So, thought about Cannondale Quick series ...

Quick 2 2020 womens hybrid (a bit steep at 950, but not unaffordable):

Quick CX3 2021 womens hybrid

I have come accross the Giant Liv 3, but this too does not come in Small.

Failing that, any other advice please? thanks.

Look at the Whyte R7s and the Trek FX range

https://www.balfesbikes.co.uk/bikes/trek/hybrid-bikes/female/adult

some are in stock at Balfes for example

I’m sure the Liv does come in small, however bike stocks are very low so you may need to hunt (try an actual Giant store if you can). Do you mean the Alight? (Liv is the giant ladies range not the model)

Your links don't seem to work btw

Cannondale Quick looks good. Rigid fork is best. Weight will make little difference to speed on the flat.
Stock is the problem right now so the 'available right now' is very popular if you can find one.

My wife has a Specialized Vita (Aluminium, V-Brakes). A perfectly nice bike with a good range of gears.

TBH I look at the ones you suggest and I think that you can't go very wrong they're all fine (provided they fit). So ask your wife which one she likes the best.

According to the Giant Website, it comes in Small (S) and extra small (XS) sizes, as well as other sizes

Doesn’t look like there’ll be any stock in Small until November tho.

Balfes have the Trek FX 7.2/7.3 in Small pretty much in stock now. Buy before summer is out

SIL has just got this. She wants something to ride about town, and keep up with the kids.

It's a Trek FX

Mrs B has an order version and it's a good bike, she threw it in a crash barrier a few months ago and it came out unscathed.

Great stuff, thanks very much everyone!

Another thought I came across yesterday - cannondale "treadwell" hybrid womens (tradewell 2/3/eq). These bikes seem to be classified as allround commuter/leisure bikes - a class I've never really heard of. Any thoughts on these sort of bikes?

Thanks. You mention V-brakes: I always thought hydraulic disks were the de-facto preferred option these days - are there benefits to v-brakes, or it doesn't really matter too much?
