After today’s trial pack and ride in preparation for my first attempt at LEJOG in May/June I’m looking for lightweight stuffable footwear to put in my Tailfin panniers for off the bike footwear. I have a pair of Sketchers, they weigh nothing, but are bulky.

I’m size 10-1/2 so ideally I need to try them on or buy them online from a seller with good return policy.

Size 10 1/2 shoes are bulky. Good luck.

As above, consider a pair of the lightest VFFs (Vibram Fivefingers) i.e. barefoot shoes. That's what I put in my Tailfin since a) they take up very little space and weigh 208g (the pair I just weighed), b) I wear them 90% of the time anyway. They're the size of your foot but only about 5mm thick so take up very little space indeed.

Do you really need a second pair of shoes? You can get lightweight spd cycling shoes, which you can walk in.

It’s taken me sometime and a not insignificant cost to find the right cycling shoes so i definitely want something different for the evenings, especially if the cycling shoes are drying out.

You can always pack things ie socks, Y-Fronts etc inside the footwear so the only space taken up is the sole & thickness of the uppers.

Rubber sliders/crocs are quite popular amongst tourists. They can be hung/mounted outside the pannier and are great for showering and evening wear. Being waterproof, there’s no concern with them being out of the pannier.

Whilst this will be my first self supported bicycle ride, I’ve extensively motorcycle toured most of Europe and C2C US, so things like stuffing gaps is nothing new. But of course the issues of weight & volume are magnified on a bicycle compared with the 120 litres I carry on my 1200 cc motorbike.

On motorbike tours we carry much heavier & bulkier gear. But we take suicide clothing, underwear especially gets binned as you go along.

i have ordered some water shoes, if they don’t fit the brief I will dive into GoOutdoors at Swindon who might have something. Thanks for all the contributions

Not pleasant if damp or wet !

I shall be watching this thread as I've some cheap lightweight trainers for bike packing, but they are bulky. Beach shoes are a good shout if the weather is warm and I wouldn't look an idiot. May be different if wandering out for a meal in the evening ! One of my mates takes flip flops if we aren't going anywhere after the rides.

Hah, fashion error.

TBH I take my 'fake' croc's car camping - great when showering, beach, just pottering about. Light but bulky.

When I had exactly this choice to make (9 day end-to-end) in road shoes/cleats, I went for windsurf type shoes with a decent (running shoe) insole inserted. Low bulk and light enough. Robust and protective enough for the walk to the pub on the evenings I needed to. And on the ferry Kirkwall > Aberdeen and flight > London and bus back to workplace/car.
As an aside I wore a pair of shoes approaching end-of-life on the train journey down to Penzance and ditched them (and a book) at the station before riding to St Just.
