Losing my patience with new workmate..........

That's it, that's what put me on edge, as one daft question hit me, another (usually unrelated) was already leaving his lips. I am going to talk about "personal space" first thing in the morning.
I think a conversation about verbal diarrhoea may be in order.

How about you only answer his work-related questions and ignore the rest? (If you export guinea pigs to Tunisia out of East Midlands Airport that's clearly not going to work.)

Why not just interrupt him and say, 'Please be quiet.'?

I know, I am pretty good at being straight/blunt but there was just no respite yesterday, I should have got "Please be quiet" in, but I think I was shell shocked.

Anyway, I told him this morning to try to keep some appropriate distance between us as he was unnerving me, and, that everybody gets nervous in a new place with new people, it's understandable & normal but perhaps it'd be better if he looked and listened rather than trying to engage me in conversation 100% of the time we are together. But not speaking continually left him rocking backwards and forwards like somebody waiting for bad news outside an intensive care unit. The questions are less annoying.

We have people with aspergers turn up every so often for a few weeks/months, they are usually very intelligent and often v.funny once you "synch" into them and they have relaxed in your company, but this guy doesn't display any symptoms. He's just intensely annoying. I had some snack seeds today (vanilla, pumpkin & sunflower) and asked if he would like to try some, I got called away and returned maybe 5 mins later to find he'd eaten the whole friggin pack, WTF? It takes me about 3 days to eat a pack, they are horrible!

Just one day to go.

Is he Autistic, or does he have Asperger's? The first time I encountered someone with Asperger's I found it a bit odd.
You do know that Asperger's is a form of autism...?

I beleive that Racing Roadkill is slightly confused here, but......

Yes, although there are two distinct types. Asperger's Syndrome is the one the higher funtioning people have, BUT, there is another kind which should be (but isn't) called Kanner's Syndrome, which is what the more severely affected people have. It is often simply referred to as Autism, so..... Technically, you could have either Autism or Asperger's, even if they are all under the same umbrella.

Now, the Kanner's sufferer will probably never be in a job in the first place, but, anyway....

Asperger's was dropped from the DSM in 2012.

I have not read about it in years, so I'll take your word for it.

EDIT: Kanner's, not Canner's...... See, I am a bit rusty these days.

This is the UK. We use ICD-10 rather than DSM...

As per the above - being the parent of someone who's just been diagnosed with Asperger's at 16 it's an interesting experience.

He'll engage in conversation ... sometimes ... but not the stuff that @MarkF 's having. Oh, and don't send your one my way please.
