Lots of Bikes Out This Morning

i don't think anybody is saying its a bad thing, quite the opposite. what is funny is the all the gear no idea mob that those of us who havent got bike that weighs les than a fart are leaving in the dust without trying. one very nearly had his carbon thing crushed under a van as he didn't quite understand that red means stop fo a reason. the words as he arrived next to me at the lights were " oh F**k it I am going" it was a lovely skid he did when he saw the van .

That's the thing I mean, they go out and buy a carbon bike and then we (don't know why I'm saying we, I'm as slow as a tortoise!) sneer at them because they aren't as fast as cyclists who may not have all the gear but are fitter and more experienced. Everyone has to start somewhere and if they can afford to start with a Dogma with Di2, bully for them!

The red light issue...I understand that they are there for a reason and if it's a red light then it can mean traffic which you may not yet be able to see/hear and we stop to show motorists that we follow the rules too thus depriving them of ammunition to berate 'bloody cyclists' but dammit!!!! There are times, on a junction I know very well, clipped in, that I don't stop. There I've said it!

I'm not on carbon so it wasn't me by the way!

Checked out the video of the carbon road bike I came across this morning, spd-sl's, shaved legs, team kit but the rear camera shows him trying hard, although not catching, until the 13% part of the hill and then it's all over.
Nice to know the local hills I have been searching out for to ride on my commute are helping my climbing strength as I did not have to try at all .
This is on a hill that the very first time I cycled up it, over a year ago now, I had to get off and walk the last part .

What's all this piss taking about, just because you have been riding a while longer gives you the right to scoff fellow cyclist. You should be embracing the fact more people are taking up cycling, not putting them off or indeed future cyclist.

Lighten up, try reading the last part where I state the first time I tried to cycle up the hill I had to get off and walk.
The post was more to do with my improvement over the past year or so.

It would be a sad day if a commuter(wannabe roadie) cannot take the piss out of another commuter(wannabe roadie).

I actually passed not one, but two cyclists on the first part of my long commute yesterday - it is really unusual to see any other cyclists out there
Also ssaw a few coming the other way, both morning and evening.

Good bit of SCR with someone in a TdF yellow jersey today - not someone I usually see on my commute, so possibly a club/weekend rider who has started commuting. Neither of us could drop the other, but enjoyed the tow.

Re Bells: there's this sill "art" work thing on Friday morning so possibly the bell buyers were gearing up for that.

Saw a women on a boris bike try and cross the busy intersection this evening when we were all at red. She got about 5 feet out,braked,jumped off and hastily retreated ...... Just as a double decker wooshed throygh the junction. I sat on the opp red lights just shaking my head at the stupidity of some people

No more bikes out on my commute than normal, I rarely see more than two or three.

I usually only see a couple,1 of them is a guy who is at least 100 and uses an electric bike, good on him. Anyway was getting a nice break out the headwind behind a 45ft Tesco trailer and got stuck at some road works, it felt good filtering past about 50 cars. I bumped into 4 cyclists doing the trip from Lands End to John O Groats really nice people and had a nice chinwag with one of them waiting on the lights to turn green. The guy I was talking to then cycled about 500m at a decent speed with his hands dangling at his side,perfect balance............amazing!!!! I hope they got to Stirling okay and have a great trip up in the beautiful highlands!!!! A lifetime goal for me.....one day just not yet.
