An observation on sexism is not sexist. Remind me again, in 2014, how many women are fighter pilots?
There is a bedrock of unreconstructed 70s attitudes that still harks back to a world of warrior myth-making, patronising colonialism and an arrogant assumption of the UK's position in the world.
Fighter jets and bombers aren't sexy exciting things. They're sordid killing machines which aren't there to stop us being invaded by Ivan the Terrible from the Eastern Wastelands where the cannibals live; they're designed to be sold to tyrants and dictators in shady back-hander deals to keep their peeps in line. They're as sexy as napalm cluster bombs.
However the peeps here may want to reinvent them as instruments of peace, they're not - they're instruments of war and blood, made and used by men, with women who support the thing standing on the touchlines waving and cheering the noble macho warrior. I think the increasing militarisation of the UK is to be decried, not encouraged.
