Low flying military aircraft

Actually the 'spat' as you call it began in the usual way. Which is that whenever a thread starts to get in the slightest bit interesting up pops Welsh Dragon like some annoying little CC PCSO saying, 'You can't do that here, off you go to CA&D,' which she is then gratuitously rude about. I suggested she might like to stop doing this, and she was gratuitously rude to me, as she often is. I suggested she ride her bike, I still think it would do her good.

If you think intelligent interesting discussions are 'high faluting' then I do rather despair, but I'll continue to post wherever I like, thanks very much. The Café isn't just the preserve of selected people who like to chat about bikkits and moan about the state of the country these days. By the way, the 'thread drift' about sexism that our Welsh PCSO disliked so much was instigated by Spinney, who is a Moderator here I believe.

I thought the main thread drift was into something along the lines of we don't need military aircraft any more. There's nowt wrong with a bit of thread drift, but the 'ban the jets' theme was beginning to take over.

It was User9609 who first suggested that the CA&D crowd go away and discuss the rights and wrongs of this elsewhere, and let the rest of us continue to drool over the visceral pleasure to be gained from hearing and feeling a multi-million pound toy blast overhead so low that you can feel it. Not welsh dragon.

I'm sure welsh dragon is all grown up and can decide for herself what is and what isn't good for her.

And for the avoidance of doubt, any message that is not preceded by the words 'Moderator message' is from me as a member of cyclechat, not me as a moderator.

Quite surprised that the AV Roe Vulcan hasn't been mentioned, & the ability to 'aileron roll' within seconds of taking off.
Plus, its climbing ability & that wonderful 'howl'

I did mention Vulcans earlier - one of the best aircraft to be lying on the end of the runway under when it is landing (sadly when taking off they are too high when they reach the threshold to have the same effect).

Didn't the BBC Timewatch series (I think that was the name) have as part of its opening sequence a silhouetter of a pterodactyl flying across the screen that morphed into something very like a vulcan?

I don't think I have ever seen one. However, one of the best sights I saw was the red arrows as they flew over head. Absolutely brilliant.

Another amazing thing I saw was in the 70's when the space shuttle was strapped on top of another plane and was being transported somewhere. I was in my garden in birmingham at the time and it flew overhead, very very low. Fantastic sight. And very loud. I think they must have got special permission to fly that low over the city

It was on a '747, and they flew it over several Cities as part of some sort of public display.

I worked for laura ashley for some time, and they had a helipad. Army, police, and rescue helicopters used to land on a regular basis as part of they're training
