Lubricating gear cables

pre-lubed cables are the biggest ripoff to hit the bike scene for years - you are paying about £20 extra for some poor guy/machine to lube the cable for you (which you could do yourself for 1p and 30 seconds of your time)

That's a good tip and I do it to brake and gear cables once a year, except I use grease. My cables last for ever.:biggrin: :thumbsup:

I love finding tips like that. Here is a little more clarification. I have a Shimano 105 ten speed rear mech. I turn the cranks and shift the chain onto the biggest cog of the cassette. Then change back to the mech. position for the smallest cog, but without turning the cranks, so that the chain is still on the biggest.

That gives a huge amount of slack on the inner gear cable so that you can fiddle away to your heart's content with the outers. Top marks to the geezer who put that up on YouTube.
