I did a few 60's returns in my last job -it was a once a week, pick the weather too, as you are out a long time - 12 hour day really......

Halfords in Lancaster were selling BMX bars for £3 the other day, might mean you could try Jimbo's suggestion at that price if you can find a pair in your local one.
