Unfortunately it seems to sum up the modern Olympics, so expensive they have sold their souls to finance it.
+1 (and creating a worldwide stage for any nutter - hence a fortune defending it and treating spectators as latent terrorists). Why does this come as a surprise?

You really would not want to be firing the starting pistol, what with all the soldiers and rockets aimed in your direction:ohmy:
I wonder how many days into the Limpics it will be before some 'Terrorist' gets killed, only for it to turn into another Jean Menezes case.

You mean visitor passes are one use only - hadn't twigged that. Still we often park on our neighbour's drive (with her permission - my mum helps to do lots of jobs she can't since she had a stroke), so hopefully we would be OK - unless her children were visiting her.

Here is the blurb we have got, we are in the Greenwich CPZ during normal times, however if you register for a Olympic period parking ticket you also get two REUSABLE visitors parking permits for free

Successful registration for a 2012 Games parking permit

Thank you for registering for a 2012 Games parking permit. We can confirm that the
registration process is complete and your vehicle xxxxxxxx has been successfully
registered on our system.

You may park anywhere in your area within the resident and business parking protection
area (RBPPA) throughout the operational hours (27 July to 9 September, between 8.30am–
7pm, Monday to Sunday). To view maps of this area, please visit
www.2012gamesparkingpermits.com.

Your 2012 Games parking permit

Your 2012 Games parking permit is zone specific and must be displayed in your vehicle
during the operational period.

Visitors’ parking permits

You will receive two reusable visitors’ parking permits for use during the Games which will
arrive with your 2012 Games parking permit. Visitors’ parking permits will allow your visitors
to park within your zone in the RBPPA during the Games.

Your visitors’ parking permits must be displayed in their vehicle during the operational
period. Please make sure you retrieve the parking permit before your visitor leaves, as you
will need it for your next guest.

Please note that existing visitors’ parking vouchers will not be valid during this time.

Traffic management and parking in Waltham Forest

Waltham Forest is one of the Host Boroughs for the 2012 Games. To ensure that operations run smoothly and safely, and any potential impact on residents and businesses is kept to a minimum, there are transport plans in place for parts of the borough.
The parking measures include the following:
  • A residents and business parking protection area that will operate in Waltham Forest during the Games. The restrictions will be in place from Monday to Sunday, between 8am–1pm and 3pm–9pm and will apply to all roads south of Lea Bridge Road, including existing controlled parking zones (CPZs) in this area, between 16 July and 9 September.
  • Existing CPZs will operate as they do now but their times will be extended accordingly. All existing permits, except visitors’ permits, will be valid throughout the period.
  • Existing visitor permits will not be valid during the Games. An alternative free visitors’ permit scheme will be introduced to assist residents.
  • Existing uncontrolled areas below Lea Bridge Road will be for permit holders only during the restricted times. All residents and businesses in this area will be able to get free 2012 Games parking permits to enable them to park as usual.
  • Residents will be able to register one additional visitor vehicle, which qualifies for unlimited visits during the Games.
  • Residents can also register their guests for up to four half-day visits per week (this will be eight per week during the transition)
  • Businesses in the uncontrolled area will be approached by the local council over the coming month to identify customer parking near their business. Customers will be able to park free of charge in these businesses bays for limited periods to access shops and facilities
  • There will be no change to Blue Badge parking.

Visitor permits
Each household will be able to register for one continuous visitor permit which will allow a visitor to park throughout the Games.
You will also be able to use up to four half-day visitors’ permits per week. This allocation will be increased to eight half-day visitors’ permits between 13–29 August, when no events are taking place in the Olympic Park.
The permit week runs from Monday to Sunday, with your new allocation being available from Monday each week. Please note that you will not be able to carry forward any unused visitor permits.
A half-day visitors’ permit can be used to cover either the morning (8am¬–1pm) or the afternoon (3pm–9pm) controls.
Visitors will also be able to park before 8am, between 1pm–3pm and after 9pm every day when there are no parking controls in place.

close to the park you get treated like scum

Well if I can't get to work to drive trains f'em.I know some of my colleagues will have real problems.I really think this has been badly thought out from the start, but that is my opinion.I'd quite happily take two weeks off unpaid but I doubt if my TOC would go for it.

New Olympic Lane being installed on the Embankment
This is supposed to be the "greenest" Olympics ever. You might have thought cycling would be a part of that. No chance. Pardon my French, but cycling has been well and truly shafted by the London Olympics. The roads - already woefully lacking in any meaningful cycle infrastructure - are being made even more dangerous for people to cycle on. You're being discouraged from driving. Now you're also being discouraged from cycling.

Not so sure now.
I will try the back roads. Take me longer than using embankment for example, but it will be safer
