Got a Mac G5, 4 - 5 years old. Turns off when you wake it up and sometimes takes 3 or 4 goes to get it to stay on.

Any ideas before I drop it from a great height?

Ruddy thing!

I had a slightly similar issue, it would power off randomly instead of sleeping. I ran the usual diagnostics on the apple pages (going from memory something to do with resetting the MRU?)
Anyway, none of that worked, so It took it apart an cleaned the dirt/dust from inside the case and especially around the power supply. Works a treat now. No more issues.

My G5 imac has just died after doing similar weird things after going to sleep. The fans would come on full blast after a few minutes and it wouldn't wake up. And its the isight one so you can't even open it to get at the hard drive. Very sad, no fixes.

Really? I've got the pre-isight one which compared to PCs is a joy to open. Maybe that's why the changed it.
