Great way to keep hold of that elusive 10mm spanner when working underneath the car.

Thinking of acquaintances, not anyone on here, it seems to me that many would rather put faith in miracle cures and pills without first putting in much/any effort with things that actually make an enormous difference to wellbeing.

eg improving diet, gut health, doing exercise, increasing core strength & flexibility and not being a complete ______ to people around you.

Cutting down on booze is another one; or stopping completely.

Can't do much about genetics, but so much disease is self-inflicted. Most of us indulge in selfish and self-destructive behaviours. It can be difficult to stop these, but it's easy to make improvements and work your way to a much better place.

As for smoking, i'm so glad i never went down that path....

Hi
I was just wondering as too, does anyone here use or have any opinions on those copper magnetic brackets.
With the advancing year's,I'm starting to suffer with the usual aching and stiff joints and I saw some of these bracelets today in my local pharmacy which are supposed to help with the aforementioned.
Are they a con and a waste of money or have you had one and actually felt the benefits of them.
I've seen these things around as far as I can remember to which makes me think there must be something beneficial about them.
Kind regards,
Johnny

It's bullshit.

Reminds me of a story about the physicist Niels Bohr. Bohr had a lucky horseshoe on display. Someone asked "surely you don't believe in that superstitious nonsense?". Bohr replied "Of course I don't. But I hear that it works whether you believe in it or not"

In his posthumously published work, Pensées ("Thoughts"), Pascal presented this argument using decision theory, a field he helped to pioneer. He reasoned that when faced with the question of God's existence, a person has two choices: to believe in God or not. He then laid out the potential outcomes in a "wager" format:

  • If you believe in God and God exists: You gain infinite reward (eternal life in heaven).
  • If you do not believe in God and God exists: You face infinite loss (eternal damnation).
  • If you believe in God and God does not exist: You lose nothing of real value (a finite amount of earthly pleasures).
  • If you do not believe in God and God does not exist: You gain nothing.
Pascal concluded that from a purely rational and self-interested perspective, the most logical choice is to believe in God, because the potential gain is infinite and the potential loss is minimal, while the alternative has either a neutral or an infinitely negative outcome.

Some time ago in the last century I was hitchhiking to a crag called Almsciiffe to do a route called Wall of Horrors which was going to be a big deal for me. I got picked by a 2 blokes going to some religious retreat. They tried to get me to go with them and not go climbing.
They said if I didn’t accept the lord I would be dammed for all eternity and so would anyone didn’t accept the Lord Jesus. Even my question that there were probably people in the world who had never heard of Jesus would they be dammed and yes they would unless they accepted him. At this point I lost the will to live and got them to drop me off early and walked the rest of the way.
It didn’t stop me do the route.

some people seem to genuinely feel/think they help, some people say otherwise.

they're cheap as chips so hardly a 'con', you might waste a fiver if it has no effect.
