ive recently just cycled 50+ miles as i wanted to hit me half century before year was out. however im now questioning if i actually done this as i stopped after about 14 miles for a drink (2mins) then at half way i stooped at a cafe for 20mins then another stop on way back 2 mins. ended up doing just short of 52 miles. but im asking could i class this as a 50 miler or not on account i stopped????????????

I'd have to say well done on acheiving your first 50 miler!

Most people will talk about what they have done in the day, rather than what they did non stop - so yes you did it.

You can also see how far you can go without stopping if you want too

Though why stop to drink? Can't you do that whilst moving?

Yep, definitely your first 50, I generally count ride distance as how much I've done from leaving with bike to arriving home. The fact that ther may be many hours delay, possibly in a bar, is neither here nor there

Yes, stop always! Be sure to enjoy the ride, enjoy a cup of tea, enjoy the view! Unless you're trying to win a race of course...

If your average was over 9.4 mph, its OK.

Nevertheless, timewise, if a stop is over 25% of the last cycling section, your muscles will cool down too much and physiologically, it is a seperate ride.

You have it set for "moving time" then (13 odd mph)... jimboalee is most likely talking about your average for the entire time duration.
