Maiden Ride with Clipless Pedals

Been out today for the first time using my Xmas prezzie a pair of Decathlon MTB shoes and what a difference over the 'road' shoes, clipping in & out was easy so was walking especially on hard floors so here is a question, what is the thinking or advantage of using a road bike shoe with clip less pedals over a MTB shoe, I can now having tried both of the disadvantage of wearing/using road shoes?

Road shoes SPD L shoes generally have stiffer soles and being even firmer clipped to the pedal all the power is transmitted into driving the bike foward that's the theory anyway . Most of us leisure rides would not notice the difference . I more than happy with SPD cleats and shoes and the extra ease of walking
