Here for rides.
I need to buy some presents for soon to be ex-colleagues.

Thinking Glenfarclas 25 for some and Cragganmore 15 for others at present but what's the best Speyside you've ever sampled?

Benromach is one I have recently been introduced to, very smoith, and slightly sweet taste which was surprisingly good.

The Glenfarclas is very heavy on the sherry side, might be very sweet to some palettes. For a more balanced but still sherried whisky I'd opt for Balvenie double wood 17 yr

Or if your pushing the boat out then the Balvenie port wood (an exceptional whisky and one of my favourites)

MacAllan is very good Speyside, not to heavy on the sherry again but still sweet and finely balanced. In the same price point as the Glenfarclas 25 I'd buy this

Or this

Hope that helps

Then you've been told wrong.
My nose doesn't lie. Why should I wish to take it further?

Your post said you had been told they smell of cats piss not that you had smelt them yourself.

If you had smelt numerous whiskies you would know they are vastly different
Is this the "Five Minute Pedantry Clinic"? They all smell of cat's piss to me. I don't seek out oral sampling of them after I've come to that conclusion.
