And makes it into the Manchester evening news http://www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk/news/s/1192982_dads_28mile_cycle_to_work.

I think they are desperate for news today.

I am sure some people on here do more!

Well, good for him. I don't know why folk - especially on a forum like this one - feel the need to have a go because he's not cycling far enough for it to be real news. He's a cyclist, he's in the papers with a positive cycling story: let's just be pleased about that.

I was guilty of laughing at that too, but you have a great point RT! It is 56 miles in one day too (at a very respectable pace) with a working day in between so no mean feat really.

But even with that in mind, I still want to have a go! Is that jealousy that I'm not in the paper for my "achievements"? Oh yes, definitely!!!!

Have a go? I am not having a go at him, good on him. I think it's great that he cycles so far.

Just questioning why that would make the newspaper? doesn't seem particularly newsworthy. When I lived at my parents I cycled from Chester to Macclesfield and back for work and didn't think it particularly newsworthy to tell my friends let alone the whole of Manchester.

If he did it everyday now that would be impressive.

Ok, fair point. It's not particularly newsworthy amongst us lot, you're quite right. But for the general public, he's probably up there with Mark Cavendish as a cycling hero. Anyway, slow news day or not, it makes a nice change from the car centric reporting we've all got used to, and if just one motorist thinks "ooh, I'll give this cyclist plenty of room, he might be the one I read about in the papers" then it's a good thing.

I never said he wasn't cycling far enough.Couldn't give a flying one whether it's 5 or 50 miles.

Why Dad and what's the publicity seeking sprog doing in the photo other than proving the headline?

If he has a 28 mile commute I don't blame him really.Don't think I could manage that every day.Not on my 7 day commutes anyway. So one or perhaps two days would be sensible for me.

That's a fair route that is. I'd not do it too often with a days work in the middle of it.

Proving to his mates that he's had sex.

Used to be on another forum where when one became a Dad the thread title would be "I done sex"

I think it's great, makes a change from the bad news which seems to frequent the TV and newspapers at the moment. A bit of good news!
