Manchester Picadilly to Velodrome

Not really commuting but wondered if anyone had cycled from Piccadilly Station Manchester up to the velodrome.
I want to do it on Sunday ( to watch National Champs )with my son and his friend and according to the Sustrans map it is all off road ( via the canal ).
Has anyone ridden this route and would you recommend it for me and 2 x 10 year olds?

Yep, easy....done it with my 8y/o from Rochdale to Manchester and back.
Take spare tubes as the canal can have lots of glass, the Canadian geese are fearless too!

out of picallilly, turn right onto store street then jump on the canal and follow it round
and yes, watch out for the geese!
