Ah, the right/left turn detection is something I'm working on. At present the engine that powers the route-planner (OSRM) is smart enough to prefer left turns over right turns, but not smart enough to differentiate between different types of road. I'm intending to patch it so that it will be reasonably content with turning right across a minor road, but not across a busy one. Think I need a bit more coffee to get that working though. ;)

@jefmcg - you got me worried there for a moment! But it's not sending you on the A4 and the A30: it's suggesting the cycle paths alongside. If you zoom in you'll see it's highlighted the red cycleway, not the main road itself (and that's what it says in the turn-by-turn directions).

Well, I was going to recommend the Transport direct Journey Planner website but the Govt. have closed it today.

They recommend http://www.cyclestreets.net/ might be worth a try.

EDIT: Oooops, I see your already using it, site looks ok to me.

Here for rides.

A case in point for my home town. The 'popular' routes on strava are fine at 09:00 am on a Sunday morning for a club run or TT and ruddy unpleasant at any other time.....
