I would maintain that just because you have made lots of money, you still can be a bit of a twat, dim and annoying.

You can get where you are by just being in the right place at the right time or someone picking your number.

Or by having milions of people who do enjoy what you do.

It's a good line up of people but 6 presenters is too many.

Only the name will remain but consider this to be a brand new show. Forget the old shows chemistry, that will never be replicated but I've already gone past that and look fwd to seeing how the new show pans out. Unfortunately I've lost a lot of interest in cars because I don't get enough chance to drive them how I like.

The fact that they've retained the Stig does suggest they'll be following some of the old formula. A mistake, I think.

Having met Evans...and I am in no way a fanboi...i can tell you that he is one sharp cookie and pretty intimidating with it (in an intellectual way not a physical one). Also quite easy to get on with and pretty engaging. In real life he comes across well and seems like a fairly private person, despite the public image. I met him when he was in the early throws of romance with Billie piper, when some would argue (himself included, if his biography is anything to go by) that he was at his most self destructive.

I would assume he is a better man today.

Just sayin...his public persona has made him successful and wealthy but I get the sense that he is wiser or perhaps a good deal more "human" than his public image suggests.

I agree, it feels like they are spreading the appeal net, which is understandable but will ultimately risk diluting the character of the show.

As a long term fan of TG and one who shared a sense of eventual boredom and frustration with the old line-up, I am all for the change. Very interested to see how it all comes together.

Having read both of evans autobiographies, I fears for this new top gear. When he has one job, be it big breakfast , be it tfi or now on radio 2, he's an exceptional talent. When he adds more and tries to do many things at once he goes off the rails and messes up. Spreading himself too thin is a mistake he repeatedly makes.

I don't consider myself a fan of Evans, but he is very good at what he does.

He has also proved his versatility, he did an excellent job of one of the WW1 commemoration events on telly, which is something one might have thought would have been a car crash.

On his own account, he took a little while to get on top of the R2 show, so it might take a few programmes for him to master Top Gear, but I think he will master it.

I reckon the punch up and politically incorrect statements by clarkson were staged.

I think the beeb should have used the presenters of Moto GP, Steve Parrish, Coxy, and Suzie Perry, they were always a good laugh. I can't stand the new programme on wherever it is!
Although Clarkson was a bit of an oaf at times he wasn't afraid of saying what he thought. The times he was reported as having said things off camera should never have been released to the press. Yes I found him a bit irritating at times, he constantly ran down BMC and Leyland cars. I thought it was a marvellous achievement for those three cars to actually move carrying that weight of water.
The programme of trying to make a space shuttle out of a Reliant should have received a television award. I met the pilot at Kemble airshow.
The Vietnam Special I thought was very humbling as having watched the news throughout the 60's being told that they were the enemy and should be stopped at all cost. They seemed to be decent people and the country looked beautiful.

I agree with this...its a very good point.

Aside from messing up, its also pretty bad for him, on a personal level but I guess that's his lookout.

It's funny that, how off camera quotes and bits from the cutting room floor made their way with some regularity to the media. Almost as if someone on the "team" didn't like him, can't think why.

The donuts are a long way from the cenotaph. They are actually in the middle of the junction of Parliament Street and Parliament Square. Saw the resulting tyre marks yesterday.

Doesn't take away from the BBC pushing it though, saw another story about Top Gear being outside St Paul's
