“There is scarcely anything in the world that some man cannot make a little worse, and sell a little more cheaply. The person who buys on price alone is this man's lawful prey.”
― John Ruskin

He was rather too trusting about men in that comment

I would say that there is hardly anything in the world that some man cannot make a little worse and a little cheaper to make - and then sell for more money using the correct marketing

I've had to point this out to a manager more than once.
Had the chance to do that to Simon Kohler(Hornby), but explaining why I was in favour of selling the cheaper RailRoad versions over their standard range.
I could sell two of their RailRoad items to one of their standard range.

I somehow lived after enquiring about a colleague's hair the other day. Turn's out that hers is naturally dark, which ain't bad for a half century.

Oh s###, i asked her age too!!!!!

I used to know a lady with red hair some time ago

her hair was a natural red colour
thing is that she is older than me and swear that all she has never coloured her hair in any way EVER

she is however a witch (really) and so is her husband

so I suspect there might be more to this magic stuff than I previously thought!!!

and no - it was NOT me than asked about it - it was another woman who was inquiring about how she makes it look so natural

I was normally the one saing we should by cheap

ratehr than expensive but flashy with lots of maxims/slogan and trendy words

but no more function - or less - than the cheap one

so yes I agree - but cheap in terms of function and quality - not price
and they don't always go together

In my case it was bicycle workshops, where the manager bought the wholesalers own brand tools, which are made for hobbyists and casual users, but would then bend and break within weeks in our workshops.

I used to work in a hardware shop and we were briefed on how to sell expensive and cheap tools. The key was not to lose the sale, so don't imply that the cheap one is rubbish, but do your best to direct the customer to the more expensive one. Emphasise that the more expensive one will stand up to daily use, but the cheaper one was fine if you only used it infrequently. No tool-buying man would want to admit to only using his drill infrequently, so the key was the customer's ego.

Unfortunately I was a rubbish salesman

Us redheads don’t usually go grey, instead we change color, usually going lighter, but very occasionally darker.
And yes, all redheads are witches, whether they know it or not.

My Mum was a red head - very bright red apparently

she went grey - a sort of white grey
not that you could tell unless you looked very carefully at the roots and she got them done as soon as you could see

but she was grey

as am I in places - which does not include my head but does include my beard when I grew it!
(and other bits like legs and arm hair)
