I am toying with buying a second road bike as a backup ( that's Iwhat I told the Wife)

I love the look of the Mekk here

To go alongside my Pro carbon Boardman.

Advice, as I think it's lovely
A backup? Can't you just upload your Boardman to your hard drive?

You want a carbon bike as a backup to a carbon bike. Guessing you never ride in the rain ;). Or has the boardman started to melt. Go steel for a proper back up ;)

Vickster....behave!! ;)

Brava 210. If you've got £800 to spare, why don't you have 1 really cracking bike rather than 2 OK bikes? When has your Boardman ever let you down? Ergo, you don't need a back-up, really, do you?

I like the ride of a carbon, what's all this about melting in the rain?
The boardman I have is a cracking bike.
I was thinking of the Mekk as a possible winter bike, different tyres etc.
It seems to have a good frame as a base, with tiagra etc.

The melting thing is a bit of a joke about the supposed fragility of carbon.

The Mekk looks good to me, potential to upgrade in the future. If you like it, buy it.

Dunno why you're being advised against it... Bit weird for a cycling forum!
