Alco k and Brown. They crashed into a bog nearby after their pioneering Transatlantic flight.

There is also a hotel named after them just across the street.

Memorial to Alexander Nimmo who is responsible for the harbours and road network around Connemara.

Without him, my tour may not have been possible! It's amazing how he managed to find flattish routes through mountainous terrain. Thanks Alec!

Alcock and Brown again, this time near the crash site.

As this was the first non-stop Transatlantic crossing, I assume the plane must have made it across the Atlantic by ship first? A lot unanswered. The exhibition in the Clifden museum concentrates on Alcock and Brown themselves. I must read more about it.

And now Mums need 315 HP to drive little Tarquin half a mile to school...
